Director of Software Engineering


The Director of Software Engineering is responsible for ensuring the timely and quality delivery of software releases as well as providing advanced engineering support for existing releases. This position has direct reports.


  • Develop plans for all phases of the software development cycle including specification, design, development, implementation, and testing
  • Ensure software specifications are developed to meet the program objectives
  • Direct software configuration management and the build and release process
  • Develop and maintain standards for code development
  • Monitor and correct issues through all phases of the software development lifecycle in order to ensure quality and on-time delivery of products
  • Collaborate with product management to define a technical roadmap that enables achievement of business goals
  • Assign and monitor work of development staff, providing technical support and direction
  • Act as point of escalation to drive collaboration with development team members to resolve conflict and issues, and drive them to resolution
  • Monitor issues and manage backlog adjustments to address project changes and to ensure system operates in conformance with specifications
  • Manage direct reports in accordance with company policies in an equal manner that ensures confidentiality
  • Lead and mentor staff to improve skillset and career potential
  • Advise on employee promotions, transfers, and dismissals
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science or related field; proven industry experience will be acceptable in lieu of degree
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in leading software development teams
  • Demonstrated experience in software development practices such as Visual Studios, Jira, Agile, open source, etc
  • Experience in managing outsourced software development teams
  • Excellent knowledge of software and application design and architecture
  • Experience in software development and coding in multiple languages (C#, .NET, PHP, Java etc.)
  • Experience in cloud environments, preferably Azure
  • Experience in message brokers and related systems such as ESBs
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS, JavaScript and UI/UX design
  • Understanding of software quality assurance principles
  • Experience working in an Agile or iterative approach to delivery preferred
  • Strong data analysis and presentation skills
  • Project management experience
  • Progressive staff management experience
  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment, maintain confidentiality, and act in a diplomatic manner
  • Ability to independently identify, research and resolve issues
  • An intelligent and articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills
  • A good educator who is trustworthy and willing to share information and serve as a mentor
  • An excellent facilitator who is experienced in resolving conflicts between different parties

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and industry related software programs
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays pursuant with industry demands
  • Ability to work a rotating on-call shift
