Job Overview:

Macys Technology is the Research and Development division of Macys. Macy’s Technology is seeking a motivated Software Engineering Manager. The Manager of Software Engineering will drive the Enterprise Test data strategy and build & maintain the Enterprise Non Production Environments to address business needs This person has demonstrated the successful management of multiple development teams encompassing a total of 10-30 engineers where resources may be either onshore or offshore and can take diverse/changing requirements and turn them first into actionable plans

This role will develop test data management strategies and plans to provide right sized, production like, reusable and secured test data per test data requirements, as well as discover, generate, profile, transform, enrich, cleanse, extract, subset, mask, load, validate, refresh, reset, archive, purge test, data maker, data fabrication and automation tools, SQL scripts, jobs and programming languages. Candidates for this role should be prepared to act as a technical expert in their field, focused on the technical aspects of test data discovery, architecture, test data provisioning and maintenance. This role works with the Test Engineers to capture and review test data requirements and test data provisioning techniques and plans.

Extensive knowledge of databases, data warehouses, systems integrations, and data flows is preferred for this role. Additionally, candidates should be well-versed in data architecture NPPI data classifications, data development, test data management tool configuration and development, with a proven history of providing effective test data solutions. Extensive knowledge of business processes and related data flows and system integrations is also required for this position. Manage the resources necessary to support and execute all assigned tasks. Builds effective teams through coaching, mentoring, career planning and develops cross-functional partnerships.


Manager, Software Engineering at Macy’s Technology reports to the Director, Common Services, and plays a key role in leading the software engineering technical direction and development of enterprise solutions. It is a highly collaborative role where the common services group needs to partner with all technology functions and delivery of durable production-scale common services component. The candidate should also have managerial experience to lead a group of high-potential engineers and architects. Be willing to take on additional engineering and leadership duties as assigned.

  • Inspire and elevate direct reports and create highly engaged and performing team.

  • Lead the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of your solutions - Bring a passion to stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal & external technology communities, and mentor other members of the engineering community.

  • Provide support to adoption of platform engineering & site reliability engineering mindset across technology team.

  • Responsible for proactively simplifying technology footprint and reducing technical debt in solutions.

  • Responsible for partnership and collaboration with various cross-functional teams to design & build enterprise services – product management, business teams, DevOps and SRE.

  • Mentor, Coach and Manage the careers of the engineers on your team and ensure their continued growth and development.

  • Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality. 

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • MA/MS and BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Overall 8+ years of experience in the software development and high-volume enterprise systems.
  • 3+ years of experience leading & managing engineering teams Building cloud-native applications in private & public cloud (GCP, Azure, AWS).
  • Experience in multi-channel retail technologies required.
  • 5+ years of experience with open source technology technologies preferably within a high volume ecommerce environment.
  • Experience with open source technologies preferred.

Communication Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Mathematical Skills:
  • Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and analytical skills.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and make sound decisions.

Physical Demands:
  • This position involves regular walking, standing, sitting for extended periods of time, hearing, and talking.

  • May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, or crouching.

  • May involve close vision, color vision, depth perception, focus adjustment, and viewing computer monitor for extended periods of time. 

  • Involves manual dexterity for using keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.

  • May involve moving or lifting items under 10 pounds.

Other Skills:

  • Experience and passion to work in a fast paced Agile environment, delivering functional features in small time durations.
  • Strong general knowledge in Internet Technology and Software Development Lifecycle, including current industry trends and their application.

Work Hours:
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
